John Tebeau “It’s More Fun This Way”

Contaminate NYC’s Outbreak series of art and wine joint evenings continues with: “It’s More Fun This Way”, a solo show by Brooklyn-based painter and illustrator John Tebeau opening on November 11th, 2010 at 7pm at Root Hill Café.
John’s flashy and iconic pop art is meant to entertain the viewer, pleasing the eye and the spirit. In the best pop-art tradition, he employs images of popular culture to create provoking and playful images. His “Banana Magritte”– homage to the Belgian surrealist artist in his unforgettable work: “The Son of Man” – is witty and mischievous with a light humoristic touch. James Bond AKA Sean Connery and Star Trek’s Uhura cartoonish portraits take us back to the almost mythical TV series and movies of the 70s and 80s leaving us with a feeling of nostalgia for their glamour and their revolutionary impact at the time. Irony is essential in his work and John is unafraid to stress the paradoxical nature of reality playing with opposite meanings and subtleties. Naturally, his confident use of the bold and rich colors that fill his drawings and paintings sends a powerful ultimate message: It’s More Fun This Way!
On December 2nd, to accompany the richly colored canvases by John Tebeau, DiVino will host “The Bold and the Beautiful: the Richness of Red Wine”. Sommelier Annie Shapero will take you through a tasting flight of three red wines ranging in character from a bold and complex blend, to a pretty Pinot Noir, and a genuine red that makes the most of an everyday grape growing in an extraordinary place.”
