Stephen Bury Unpacking my library: a British perspective on artists’ books

Stephen Bury discusses his involvement with the artists’ book scene in the UK with a focus on his role in the development of the artists’ books collections at Chelsea School of Art, London (from 1984-2000), and at the British Library (from 2000-2010). Stephen Bury was the Librarian of Chelsea School of Art before moving to the British Library in 2000. In May 2010 he became the Andrew W. Mellon Chief Librarian of the Frick Art Reference Library. He has written widely on artist’s books, including the monograph ‘Artists’s books: the book as a work of art, 1963-1995’ (1995) and a regular column for ‘Art Monthly’ 1996-. He has curated several exhibitions of artists’ books and was the founding Chair of the Board of Trustees of Book Works, London. He will be curating an exhibition of artists’ books and multiples, ‘Aphasic Disturbance’, at the ChelseaSpace, London in January 2011.
