LUMEN 2011 will feature video installations, new media projections, animation, performance art, art interventions, and sound art. An industrial Staten Island waterfront stage will feature work from nearly 100 international and NYC based artists. LUMEN will take place on Saturday, June 25, 6pm-12am at the former US Coastguard Depot, adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, free admission. The festival will include performances throughout the day curated by Grace Exhibition Space. The annual festival aims to present art in the underutilized industrial waterfront spaces of Staten Island. LUMEN is curated under the leadership of head curator, Ginger Shulick, with guest curators Peter Duhon, Natalia Mount, Denise Carvalho, Paul Moakley, and Jill McDermid and Erik Hokanson of Grace Exhibition Space. Videos will be projected on both the interior and exterior of buildings – on walls, façades, and trees. People can bring towels and blankets to lie on while enjoying the evening’s events featuring avant‐garde contemporary art and free beverages provided by Brooklyn Brewery for the 21+ crowd. The ferry runs all night and is only a 5‐minute walk from the festival!
