(Brooklyn, New York) For the fifth year in a row, FOKUS will present The Stoop, a celebration of art, music and life. This fun and free event will be held on August 11, 2012 in Fort Greene Park (Myrtle Ave side) in Brooklyn, NY from 2-7pm and is designed for folks of all ages!
The Stoop will feature live performances, DJs games, activities, interactive arts stations, live art and many prizes, such as DJ101 class courtesy of Scratch DJ Academy and several fitness classes courtesy of Triomph Fitness, Health & Wellness.
Stoops are known for being a place for people to gather, relax, share stories and have a good time. This event mimics that by bringing together a wide array of artists and people into one space for mutual enjoyment. We will have performances by ScienZe, The Brooklyn Steppers, Ayodele Alli and others. Live art is also a crucial part of the day as the audience will be able to see several visual artists creating works throughout the event.
The event is currently sponsored by New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New York State Council on the Arts, Brooklyn Arts Council, IZZE Sparkling Juice, Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, Scratch DJ Academy and Triomph Fitness, Health & Wellness.
If you are interested in sponsoring this event, product donations, showcasing your visual art or volunteering then please contact Atiba T. Edwards, The Stoop’s program director, at thestoop2012@gmail.com.
The theme for this year is Generations, which represents the generations of families and members of neighborhoods who have converged on their respective stoop. We want to promote healthy lifestyles across all generations and believe health is both physical and mental. So we will have several interactive arts activities (such as an Egg Race, Tug-o-War, Hip-Hop Jeopardy and creation of art on vinyl records) for folks of all ages.
Each year, The Stoop attracts individuals from all boroughs who come out to Fort Greene Park to enjoy our arts programming. So bring out your friends, families and loved ones for a great day in the park.
