et al projects is pleased to present Breakaway, paintings by Scott Goodman.
Outside, a window conceals an interior; A pane of glass shatters, exposing mortar; A door opens to another; A worker lights a cigarette behind a camera; A ball of condensation, heavier than required, drips; A picture frame gilds a spider veined wall.
Breakaway, Goodman’s latest collection of images, elaborate on a formal rendering of space and material. These staccato worlds are economical in form, but extend to address the surface itself. As a passage way offers no end, nor door an entry, therein lies the examination of the illusionistic nature of image-making. An idea itself, refracted on a newly grouted tile, neither crystallizes nor circumvents.
