INSCAPING opens at ART 101 on March 22, an exhibition of work by Margot Farrington and Tony Martin. They are partners in life as well as art, their domain a continuous dialogue, with powerful currents — sometimes crosscurrents — of ideas and energy. The show runs through April 21.
Farrington, poet and storyteller, visual artist and performer, will exhibit her collages. She is the author of two volumes of poetry, and her work has appeared in magazines and anthologies. Recent fellowships and residencies include the I-Park Foundation and the ClocktowerMargot . Viewers have seen her enigmatic collages at various galleries, including The Holland Tunnel, Sideshow, and Meade Gallery at the Roxbury Arts Group. She has written for, and performed in, traditional and experimental mediums, often with Tony Martin.
“Whichever the endeavor, I’m simply turning from one poem to another. Certainly the collage and the poem are kin. I turn to collage to make poems while eluding the tyranny of language.”
Tony Martin’s paintings dazzle and overwhelm. The paintings are suffused with pure light and energy that somehow manage to escape the frame. One could swear to the play of light moving, almost dancing, around the room — not surprising, given his years of light shows and interactive performance works.
ART 101 is located at 101 Grand Street between Berry and Wythe.
