Wassaic Project 2017 Summer Programming Open Call
Deadline: December 31, 2016 Fee (USD): $20.00
The Exhibitions Program shows and promotes the work of our artist residents and emerging artists chosen by jury, and provides opportunities for emerging curators to share their visions. The program introduces emerging artists and curators to each other and to the larger local and artistic community. The exhibitions give the community the opportunity to live with free and accessible contemporary art in their midst. When presented in our historic buildings, the artist installations celebrate the unique architecture of the hamlet.
Our 2017 Summer Exhibition is up from May 20 through mid-September and open to the public every weekend (including the weekend of our Summer Festival). The exhibition includes the work of roughly 80 emerging artists, who have either participated in the Wassaic Artist Residency Program or have applied through our Open Call. The exhibition is housed in Maxon Mills, an historic grain elevator in the heart of Wassaic.
The Wassaic Project Summer Festival is a FREE annual celebration of art, music, dance, and community featuring over 100 artists, 25 bands, film screenings, dance performances, and much more! Housed in the unique buildings and property of the Wassaic Project, the festival escapes the white walls of traditional art spaces and focuses on site-sensitive installations and performances. The festival creates a weekend-long opportunity for artists and performers of all mediums to come together, exchange ideas, learn new things, and engage in a thriving community. We offer day and night programming, guests are welcome to visit for the day – or register in advance for camping! Programming is cutting-edge, but also family friendly. The beautiful Hamlet of Wassaic is remarkably accessible from NYC and a short walk from the Wassaic MetroNorth train station. Funding for the festival comes from art sales, micro-spending, sponsorship, and donations.
