At 7:00PM – join us for a 2 (short) block walk to the unveiling of a new outdoor public art exhibition, City of Curiosities, at Frederick Douglass Blvd and 121st where eight artists present unique dioramas.

The Drum Circle exhibition is comprised of works that embody sound, texture and movement. These artists explore the juxtaposition of nature and manmade structures in urban settings, evoking the energy and push/pull that pervades the city.

Susan Stair’s artwork examines the surface components of the landscape, such as rocks and trees. In her “Tree” series she takes a “Life Casting” of living plants and trees, studying different species, each with identifiers akin to our markings of age and race. Her mosaic piece, Drum Circle, representing the Marcus Garvey Park Drum Circle and the drummers loss of freedom to play is a central piece in the exhibition.

Dominant Dansby’s works focuses on collage and pencil drawings often manipulated and intricately layered in three-dimensional pieces that bring you down a rabbithole of discovery. He is inspired by jazz and the ability jazz has to evoke powerful feelings in an individual.

Jenevieve Reid’s process layers brushstrokes, decoupage, graffiti tags, patterns and photographic imagery combining her skills in silk-screen printmaking and her street art persona.
