Three new exhibitions featuring the unique artwork of re-emerging older artists will be on display November 2nd through 22nd at the Carter Burden Gallery, located at 548 West 28th Street #534 in Manhattan. The Carter Burden Gallery showcases the vibrant, cutting-edge and transformative art that is the product of the unique cultural wealth possessed by older professional artists.
EXHIBITS: In the East Gallery, Edgar Franceschi and Angela Valeria, present Chanting on the Edge of the Volcano, an assemblage of stoneware sculptures and mixed media pieces combining dye, printing, and painting. Franceschi’s stoneware sculptures juxtapose Georgian silver luster porcelain pieces, Chinoiserie elements, and studio ceramics, presenting a fragmented and mutated world that contradicts an initial impression of serenity and stillness. Valeria composes works that, whether dyed, painted or printed, explore the inseparable link between the human race and nature, and our reciprocal evolution with all the other life forms that share this planet.
In the West Gallery, painters Mona Brody and Alyce Gottesman present Color and Meaning. Brody has created over forty abstract, muted paintings and haiku poems from her series entitled ‘The Colors of Silence.’ Brody’s work encourages viewers to think about their own associations with themes of memory, personal histories, and time. Gottesman paintings are vivid and energetic, while her process is both exploratory and considered, utilizing multiple materials on changeable surfaces. Her interest is in expressing beauty and energy in the experiential and experimental work.
In On the Wall, Sumayyah Samaha presents Age of Glitter and Deception, an installation addressing what she calls “the absurdity of our time” by utilizing lustrous but inexpensive aluminum foil to symbolize the disturbing hunger for material prosperity
at any cost.
