WHAT: Pratt Manhattan Gallery presents a multi-media group exhibition with a selection of Pratt Institute Fine Arts MFA sculpture alumni. The exhibition, titled Mediated Meditations, is curated by New York-based cultural anthropologist, curator, and essayist Niama Safia Sandy.

In Mediated Meditations, the selected works interrogate relationships with our bodies, nature, language, internet culture, gender, sexuality – and overall and most importantly – our relationship to our humanity and ability to recognize another’s. The artists challenge and reshape the genre of sculpture with unique material approaches to ask questions about our experience as humans. Additionally, the exhibition examines how technology can be engaged as a material, used by the artists to create a means to order the world and solve problems, as well as navigate an artistic practice.

Art is a conduit for making sense of lived experiences which are often viewed through the prism of subcategories — the built environment, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and spirituality. In this exhibition, these categories inform the selected artists’ sensibilities, and the way they each manipulate their materials to observe, question and quantify the many states of the human condition.
