Paperworks VII
November 20, 2020- January 7, 2021
Deadline to enter: October 4, 2020
The Call for Entry:
The Foundry Art Centre in Saint Charles, Missouri is seeking submissions for “Paperworks VII” an paper centered exhibition focusing on how paper can be expressed in art. Last held at the Foundry in 2013, this juried exhibition is open to all artists who utilizes paper as an integral component of expression. We want to ask all artists how they push this ancient, tactile experience of making paper into making book arts, sculptures, and other forms of fine art. All two and three dimensional work will be considered for this exhibition.
Juror:
Sukanya Mani is an interdisciplinary artist with a passion in science, philosophy and exploring issues of gender and femininity. She takes complex ideas from those fields, builds stories around them and presents them in a visual art form. Her studio practice involves the art of cutting and sculpting paper. Mani unapologetically embraces craft, with a keen attention to the material’s inherent properties and understands the importance of light and shadow within the work. The paper sculptures are exquisitely crafted through a process of meticulous hand made cuts. By mixing science and art, observation and imagination, she hopes to find a bridge between the two, mimicking the breathtaking complexity that exists at every level of our lives, and filtering it through the intuitiveness of the artistic imagination. Mani has worked as a teaching artist and arts administrator with various arts organizations including the St. Louis Art Museum, COCA, Contemporary Museum and MO History museum. Born in India, Mani lives and works in St. Louis.
