The Yakpo Collective is pleased to announce our second annual Summer exhibition to take place in virtual form. Entitled Transcending Boundaries, this exhibition aims to emphasize how art allows us to transcend boundaries, both physical and perceived.
This year has shed light on many conversations that need to be facilitated about what boundaries mean to us. From tangible boundaries of physical touch, to personal borders we set for ourselves which dictate feelings of identity and belonging, the exhibition surveys the extension of this word.
The discursive theme aims to give space to the artists to address what boundaries mean to them from diverse perspectives, methodologies, and aesthetic languages. The show presents a selection of work by Tibetan artists from both inside and outside of Tibet, employing a multitude of mediums from painting, to graphic design, to short-film, with the aim to highlight the diversity of our cultural identities even within our diasporas
Our theme thus aims to transcend notions of geographical boundaries when thinking about the Tibetan experience and allow our artists to translate boundaries independent of this context.
About The Yakpo Collective:
There is an inextricable link between Tibetan Art and the religious imagery of Buddhism. As Tibetan art evolves to find its contemporary standings, Tibetan artists have begun to explore the disparities between traditional Tibetan art and the western cultural influences on their works. The Yakpo Collective’s goal is to provide a space for the development of Contemporary Tibetan Art and untie stereotypes to include a wider range of visual elements and styles.
