Sugarlift is thrilled to present a solo exhibition of new works by Zoey Frank entitled Summer Paintings. The collection highlights feelings of warmth, nostalgia, community, and abundance characteristic of the season, and so longed-for this year. Pool Party and After the Pool exude the joy of gathering, with lively tableaus that uniquely mobilize perspective in Frank’s hallmark compositional style. In her Berlin Window scenes and interior spaces, Frank captures light in a way that is quintessentially summer.
Frank’s work is inspired by both time and pictorial space. Her knowledge of art history is omnipresent in her paintings. From the Greco-Romans to the High Renaissance to the Abstract expressionists — Frank masters, repurposes, and combines elements from each historical period for her own unique approach on canvas. Frank’s work renders
everyday activities and situations, yet her depictions of the world are simultaneously familiar and foreign to the viewer, due to her masterful use of perspective.
