One Art Space is delighted to present the launch event of Emma Riva’s debut novel, Night Shift in Tamaqua. The book features thirteen original illustrations by multimedia artist Coyote Jacobs along with the text, which will be exhibited at the gallery.

Starting at 6:45, Emma Riva and Coyote Jacobs will hold a panel moderated by David Burr Gerrard, author of The Epiphany Machine.

Copies of the novel will be available for purchase on a first-come first-serve basis, and an autographing session will take place from 7:30 – 8 PM. QR codes to support both the author and illustrator will also be on display during the event. This is a one-night only launch to celebrate the debut novel of an author trying to change the way we experience books and bring a spirit of inter-artistic collaboration into the literary world.

Lance Miller and Ellen Kostopoulou don’t have much in common, but they’re both awake between two and five in the morning. Lance is a Postmates delivery guy with a broken-down car, and during the day, he lives alone with his five dogs, insecure that he’s one of the few Jewish people in Tamaqua. Ellen is an overworked graveyard shift waitress and an insomniac wracked with guilt over the fact that she didn’t complete her education. One night, Ellen offers Lance a ride. From there, two night owl misfits discover they each can offer the other something to heal their wounds and ease their loneliness. Night Shift in Tamaqua is their relationship, which spans from late-night blue raspberry Slurpees to fasting on Yom Kippur. This is a book for anyone who’s ever stayed up too late, but with thirteen original paintings by Coyote Jacobs accompanying the story, it will resonate at any time of day.

“Emma Riva crafts a beautiful and touching story. Lance and Ellen are so real, so flawed, and so tragic that they feel like the friends you’ve known (and have been worried about) for years. The story within these pages shows us that we are not alone.”
– Aurora Dimitre, author of One More Sad Song and the Pentalogy of Hell series
