Liquitex is pleased to announce the launch of the 2022 artists’ residency series at Manufacturers Village in East Orange, NJ. This is a unique opportunity for artists to work in a private studio space with Liquitex materials, while immersed among a diverse community of over 50 creative makers. Artists are invited to just imagine how far their creativity can go with space, materials, and the freedom and time to express themselves, gain knowledge and make connections in a vibrant collective of artists.

There will be four residencies over the course of 2022: two ‘Just Imagine’ residencies focusing on the Liquitex Professional Range, one Student Residency, and one Liquitex Basics Research Residency.

The second residency is a Student Residency, held from June 10 – August 5 2022.

Looking to continue your art education in between semesters? This residency is open to college art students and is the perfect opportunity to work in a private studio while gaining knowledge and making connections in a vibrant community of artists.

For this residency, one student artist will be given use of a studio fully stocked with Liquitex Professional products of their choice, up to a value of $1500.

The residency takes place over eight weeks, from June 10 – August 5, 2022, in a bright and airy loft situated within Manufacturers Village, originally an industrial complex built in the 19th century. Liquitex will provide professional development coaching and technical support for any questions about the materials.

While the materials are open ended, this residency is particularly suited to an artist currently pursuing a degree in Fine Art who is excited to use and experiment with multiple Liquitex Professional color ranges and mediums.

Who can apply:

Any US-based artist currently pursuing a degree in Fine Art who is able to commute to the studio space in Manufacturers Village in East Orange, NJ.
Artists who will not be engaged in another residency during the residency period.
Artists currently lacking a designated studio for their practice preferred.
Applicants who agree to regularly share images of work in progress with Liquitex and participate in any photography and films produced by Liquitex during the residency. These images/films may be used in Liquitex digital, print and public platforms, as well as any media channels they choose.

What does this residency provide?

A private studio located at Manufacturers Village (located at 356 Glenwood Ave, East Orange, NJ 07019) for an 8-week residency, from June 10 – August 5th 2022,
A supply of Liquitex professional materials of the artists choice, up to $1500.00
A $500 stipend per 4 weeks for travel and expenses (2 stipends total during the residency)
Mentoring to help you develop your practice,
Ongoing technical support from Liquitex’s resident artist for any questions about Liquitex materials,
And an opportunity to sell artwork at Manufacturers Village Open Studio.

What are the criteria and procedure for selection?

The selection will be based on the artistic quality of their work, likely benefit to the artist of the residency, and the artist’s interest in engaging with Liquitex materials and embracing the overall residency experience.
The selection will take into consideration a letter of recommendation from a Professor or Advisor.
The selection process will be conducted by a panel of jurors, the members will be announced shortly.
The judges will select the candidate after a review of all digital submissions; on this occasion we will not be able to judge work in person.

You will be asked to provide a proposal that outlines why you are interested in exploring Liquitex professional materials which includes:

A short statement about why this opportunity would be meaningful to you and what you would intend to make (200 word maximum),
An up-to-date resume which includes a 150-word bio,
A letter of recommendation from a professor or advisor, including contact details
Up to 10 images maximum of your work in a jpeg format, each file to be no more than 1MB,
Links to your website and any social media profiles you maintain,
And a URL for the judges to review if you have a time-based practice. All relevant links should be included in ONE text box as part of the submission process step

Additional terms:

Applicants must agree to regularly share images of work in progress with Liquitex and participate in any photography and films produced by Liquitex during the residency. These images/films may be used in Liquitex digital, print and public platforms, as well as any media channels they choose.

Artists will be asked to contribute a piece of work to the Liquitex art collection at the completion of the residency.

If selected, the artist will be asked to sign an agreement with Liquitex that includes terms and conditions around the residency. While we are happy to consider any reasonable requests for amendments, an agreement is required before beginning the residency.
