Arthur Kvarnstrom & Randy Klinger at Prince Street Gallery. Featuring more than 10 recent works each, in watercolour and graphite, the exhibition features Kvarnstrom’s hushed, delicate landscapes, and Klinger’s self-inquiring, self-portraits and Vermeer-inspired genre scenes. The strong counterpoint between these two artists’ intentions is that Kvarnstrom’s light touch leaves out detail, creating a haiku-like approach to landscape, whereas Klinger’s approach is like a novel, constructed by 2D surface patterns that bring out 3D form. Where the two artists are in complete alignment is their shared desire to stimulate the viewer’s imagination; that which is not described by the artist, is ‘completed’ by the viewer: Kvarnstrom’s in depth and form, Klinger in ‘synaesthetic color palettes’.
