SWERVE describes an abrupt change in the expressive language Nancy Grilikhes uses.
Her work, known for her figurative, somewhat classical exploration of geometry, nature, and space, shifted stylistically in the extreme, brought about by two recent traumatic events; the sudden death of her husband, and her own diagnosis of cancer. Her new work, done in richly colored oil pastels, contains seemingly disconnected near-abstract references to the visual everyday world. They strive to express both loss and recognition of the illusion of control over one’s life.
