HESSE FLATOW is presenting “VACANT,” a new solo exhibition by Aglaé Bassens that focuses on images of everyday spaces and overlooked objects. The Brooklyn-based artist draws from her own Polaroid photographs to create paintings that highlight moments of quiet emptiness—a sagging balloon, an unattended table, or other scenes that typically pass without notice.
In this body of work, Bassens examines how ordinary settings can carry emotional weight. The paintings reflect her ongoing interest in memory and the subtle passage of time, encouraging viewers to pause and consider the significance of stillness and absence.
