SANCTUARY at Prince Street Gallery is a group exhibition that gathers gallery artists and associates around the idea of refuge. An opening reception will be held Thursday, December 4, 5–8 pm.

Rooted in the Latin sanctuarium—a “holy place”—the theme expands here into broader interpretations of safety, protection, and interior retreat. Many artists describe the act of making art as its own sanctuary, with the studio functioning as a place of clarity and distance from the outside world. Others locate sanctuary in nature, or in imagined architectures: monasteries, ruins, guardian forms, and structures echoing early sites of spiritual or physical shelter.

The show pairs each artwork with a brief artist statement, offering direct insight into how individual practices engage the theme. The results range from introspective to atmospheric to overtly symbolic, forming a collective meditation on where, and how, sanctuary is found today.
