“Gesture, Perception, Identity” Opens at Alessandro Berni Gallery in Chelsea This June
Alessandro Berni Gallery presents Gesture, Perception, Identity, a three-person exhibition featuring Denise Jones Adler, Lauralee Franco, and Eva March. The show opens with a public reception on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 6–9 pm and remains on view through June 14, 2026 at 511 West 25th Street in Chelsea.
Through distinct visual languages, the exhibition explores painting as psychological excavation. Denise Jones Adler constructs layered dreamscapes where painting, collage, photography, and drawing coexist like fragments of memory. Drawing from mythology and symbolic archetypes, her canvases shift between intimacy and collective memory.
Lauralee Franco engages the legacy of Abstract Expressionism while resisting its pull toward repetition. Her paintings carry the force of gesture without collapsing into spectacle. Critic Peter Frank has noted that Franco “has inherited the Abstract Expressionist mantle without disappearing into it,” fitting its energy to her own vision. Eva March, self-taught before formal studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, moves between figuration and abstraction with chromatic intensity. Color, for March, is an immediate transcription of emotion and human interiority, allowing symbolic forms to emerge from the turbulence of paint itself.
Together, the three artists approach painting as an unstable mirror capable of revealing psychic traces and the invisible architectures beneath perception. Gesture, Perception, Identity proposes not fixed definitions, but a field of movement where the self remains fluid, fractured, and profoundly alive.
