Bernice Faegenburg’s “Four Seasons” Opens at Viridian Artists in Chelsea

Viridian Artists presents Four Seasons, a solo exhibition of mixed-media paintings by American artist Bernice Faegenburg. The exhibition opens Tuesday, May 12, 2026 with an opening reception on Saturday, May 16 from 4–6 pm, and runs through May 30, 2026, closing with a final reception the same afternoon.

Four Seasons brings together large-scale works and intimate compositions attuned to the rhythms of the natural world. Faegenburg’s paintings move fluidly between Western and Eastern traditions, where abstraction and figuration converge with the grace of the calligraphic line. Gesture and image intertwine to create a visual language that is at once immersive and contemplative, grounded in a deep reverence for nature and its continual transformations.

Faegenburg’s practice is rooted in abstract expressionism and expands outward to integrate elements of Asian brushwork and calligraphy within a rich mixed-media process that includes collage, photo transfer, computer imaging, and silkscreen. Her compositions, often baroque in spirit, are populated with motifs of the natural world that emerge and dissolve within fields of color and gesture, striking a balance between serenity and movement.

Four Seasons is a focused, meditative exhibition from an artist whose work resists easy categorization, drawing equally from Eastern and Western art historical traditions to arrive at something wholly its own.
