Hearne Pardee: Landscaping — New Exhibition at Bowery Gallery, Chelsea
A new exhibition of recent paintings and collages from Hearne Pardee opens this month at Bowery Gallery in Chelsea, marking both a personal transition and the culmination of five decades of work.
About the Exhibition
Landscaping reflects Pardee’s move from the West Coast to the Hudson Valley – from the sidewalk gardens of suburban California to a new studio and its cultivated surroundings. The show also culminates fifty years of work spanning landscape, abstraction, and collage.
Combining observation with photography, Pardee maps his new surroundings, locating himself in views from different cardinal points and across different seasons. Collaged colored papers introduce spatial dislocations that emphasize the elusive character of everyday perception. Exuberant, improvisatory collages give way to paintings that incorporate the stabilizing intervention of a landscape architect.
