Katherine Bernhardt’s “Peanut Butter and Jelly” on View at CANADA in Tribeca

CANADA presents Peanut Butter and Jelly, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Katherine Bernhardt. The show is on view through June 20, 2026 at 60 Lispenard Street in Tribeca, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am–6 pm.

Peanut Butter and Jelly draws directly from Bernhardt’s domestic life in St. Louis, rooted in the distinctive modernist home she has spent the past five years restoring on Lindell Boulevard. Originally built in the 1980s and known for its bold, maximalist design, the house now serves as both subject and studio. The paintings translate this environment into Bernhardt’s signature style: flattened compositions, saturated hues, and vivid, often fluorescent outlines. Everyday objects such as kitchenware, appliances, packaged goods, and decorative items are elevated into recurring motifs that capture the energy of a lived-in space.

Throughout the exhibition, Bernhardt incorporates portraits of family members and herself, embedding figures within richly detailed interiors that merge personal narrative with broader art historical references, from portraiture to still life. Iconic works of art and design recur across the canvases alongside personal collections and furnishings, reinforcing the interplay between daily life and cultural memory.
